Pat Cairney, a graduate of Glasgow School of Art, has lived in the village of Tomich since 1990. Taking inspiration from the beautiful scenery in the Highlands, Pat works in pastel, watercolour and oils - she says she has no particular preference and selects the best medium that she feels suits the project she is working on at the time.

Prior to settling in Strathglass, Pat spent 25 years globetrotting, the last 10 years being spent in Hong Kong where she became deeply interested in Chinese Painting Techniques. Using Chinese hand-made papers and Chinese watercolors, and being a bit of an individualist, she developed her own particular style.

Pat's portfoilio includes a variety of subjects. A number of her landscapes are represented on this page along with another passion - pet portraiture. The Golden Retriever is particularly apt as Guisachan, near to Pat's home, is where the breed has its origins.

Besides working on her own projects, Pat has also been keen to pass on her expertise and enthusiasm for the subject by becoming involved in art classes for small groups of local people.

Pat has exhibited her work at a number of venues - Aberdeen, Perthshire, Inverness, Beauly, Ardgay and Strathpeffer to name a few. You can also view some of her more recent work at the "Wee Studio" at Glassburn.
